Curriculum

Each student’s curriculum is based on the goals and objectives stated in the Individual Education Program (IEP). The IEP focuses on five main objective areas:

1. Functional Academic: Reading Skills – to develop and improve Reading skills to foster independence in the home, workplace or community
2. Functional Academics: Mathemetic Skills – to develop and improve Mathematic skills to foster independence in the home, workplace or community
3. Pre-Vocational or Vocational Skills – to develop, maintain and improve the skills needed that when mastered, will lead to successful employment, volunteer position in various settings
4. Social Skills – to further develop social skills to function as an appropriate member of society
5. Life Skills – to develop, maintain and improve skills to function more independently in life

The methods for achieving each goal are included in the individually-designed instruction area of the IEP.

Vocational training is incorporated in all classrooms. Pre-Vocational skills’ training begins at the St. David Parish Site.  Vocational training at the OLC Archbishop Wood site is integrated within the daily curriculum.

• Work Experience Program is a key component of our curriculum.  Students work within the community in various locations.  Presently students work in Smart Decor, Warminster Food Bank, Regina Coeli, and the YMCA of Bucks and Hunterdon Counties.
• Practical Assessment Exploration System (PAES Lab) is a curriculum that operates in a simulated work environment. Work procedures are followed so students get the feel of real work. The focus is on the students finding their interests and abilities. 

Services provided at Our Lady of Confidence are as follows: 

• Speech Therapy: through the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU) for our LS campus and Bucks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) for our US (Upper School) campus.
• Music Therapy: at both LS and US campuses through MusicWorks
• Occupational Therapy: consultation services provided to the teacher at both campuses, based on individual student's goals. 
• Physical Therapy: services provided to students on a need basis
• Physical Education class at both campuses
• Social Skills lessons based on the needs of the classrooms

Technology holds a vital role in the education of OLC students every day.  Each classroom and reading area is equipped with a Smartboards. They are used to strengthen all subject areas and reach every type of learner.  Smart boards, video streaming, educational websites, Apple T.V.s, chromebooks, and IPads are all used to supplement instruction.  These tools actively engage the student in the learning process.  The use of technology has proven to be a source of growth regarding independence and preparation for transition from school to work.

Maintenance- Vacuuming, sweeping, wiping surfaces, moping, and washing/ drying laundry and dishes.
